Question from WikiResearch11 (06:31, 27 July 2024)

[edit]

Hello Mentor, Please help me understand how to get started. I want to add Danielle Goldstein Waldman to the article at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Jewish_American_sportspeople She was born in America and won her first major equestrian competitions while living full-time in America. She later moved to Holland, but still spends part of each year in America and in Israel. Others in the article, such as David Blu, had careers entirely outside the U.S., so Daniel's international status would not disqualify her. My citations are https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danielle_G._Waldman and https://forward.com/news/469143/israeli-equestrienne-danielle-goldstein-waldman-israel-olympic-horse/

When I go to the article in Wikipedia page for editing, at https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_Jewish_American_sportspeople&action=edit&section=8 , all I see is another listing, written in code, for another equestrian, whose last name also happens to be Goldstein (but is a different person). Can I write in English instead of in coding language? Should I just put my curser below that entry and start writing? Please help. --WikiResearch11 (talk) 06:31, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@WikiResearch11: I've left you a plate of cookies and some helpful links on your talk page. In short, the "code" you see is wiki markup language. It is how we format the English language text to get the links and other formatting. You will have to learn the basics in order to participate. - UtherSRG (talk) 10:07, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from ASEEM BHAT (11:57, 4 August 2024)

[edit]

WHAT IS -AND + SHOWN WITH NUMBERS WHEN I EDIT SOMETHING --ASEEM BHAT (talk) 11:57, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

First, please don't use all-caps... that's read as shouting. Second, those numbers are the changes in size of the article via each edit, "+" for an increase in size, and "-" for a decrease. - UtherSRG (talk) 12:05, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
