Interstates in Nashville

[edit]

There are 6 interstates in Nashville. Please add 265 and 840. Alzuun (talk) 14:50, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Alzuun, that is incorrect. 265 has not been a thing since 2000 and was only ever a connector (see https://www.interstate-guide.com/i-265-tn/), and no part of 840 passes through Davidson County. Huntster (t @ c) 15:13, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Move

[edit]

Move back to Nashville. Previous move was completely unnecessary. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7D:3FB0:300:8CAC:5BE:B51F:B90A (talk) 17:12, 30 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Nashville, TN is the oldest and obviously most well-known of the many Nashvilles. There's no reason for the redundancy here. This reminds me of the debate on Napoleon. TexMarshfellow (talk) 03:30, 27 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sports section

[edit]

Apologies if this had been asked before. But in the Sports section, it states "the highest professional level of their respective sports" but then mentions MLS. Is MLS really considered the highest professional level of soccer? I can understand NFL and NHL, but I don't think MLS is seen as the highest level of soccer worldwide. --24.80.87.10 (talk) 21:07, 26 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In context, it means "the highest professional level" in the US, as seen in that the phrase links to Major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada. BilCat (talk) 01:08, 27 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: Procedural close: Regardless of the outcome of this discussion, the article will not be moved permanently to Nashville per WP:USPLACE, as local consensus cannot override Wikipedia guidelines. Please spend your efforts to get WP:USPLACE changed first, then come back here. (non-admin closure) BilCat (talk) 21:49, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Nashville, TennesseeNashville – This title proposed to move only a simpler one, because it was completely unnecessary. 49.150.110.214 (talk) 23:55, 3 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Just as a clarifying point, I'm actually the one who added Nashville into that paragraph a few years back -- not as an example of why the guideline is needed, but to address confusion where users were interpreting the inclusion of state names in the title to mean that U.S. city base names cannot be primary topics. Nashville felt like the best example to demonstrate that.--Yaksar (let's chat) 21:14, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weaker-than-average oppose - For now. Consensus seems to hold that single-word titles for U.S. cities should only be used per the AP Stylebook (which, full disclosure, I disagree with a few of the entries that use this form). While there is no doubt that this is the primary topic, I feel that we shouldn't perform this move unless consensus can show that this convention is appropriate under certain conditions for cities listed by the AP as requiring the state name. Bneu2013 (talk) 04:08, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support same as above, because this title only single word "Nashville" refers a redirect. --49.150.110.214 (talk) 06:34, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • As I've said before I'm not sure if the state is needed however USPLACE says that its common usage and that's how readers and editors expect them to be titled. Crouch, Swale (talk) 07:34, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Wait, did you mean the redirect for "Nashville", not "Nashville, Tennessee"? --49.150.110.214 (talk) 08:05, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I meant that people expect the article title to have the state, most US settlements aren't primary (such as Portland) so users expect redirect less often. Crouch, Swale (talk) 08:45, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
"Nashville" is the only WP:COMMONNAME and WP:PRIMARYTOPIC you've looking for, not precisely "Nashville, Tennessee". --49.150.110.214 (talk) 14:32, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

History - 20th Century - racial issues slant

[edit]

While I laud the excellent extensive and detailed history of Nashville's 20th Century racial issues (and 19th-Century issues, as well), they seem to form a very disproportionate percentage of the coverage of Nashville history. I strongly do NOT think any of it should be removed -- but where is the REST of Nashville history?

Not even Nashville's nationally historic music industry, and related massive 20th-Century boom in tourism (around which much of Nashville's modern activity, cultural and social evolution, and economy have come to revolve), seem to get ANY attention in the History section. Relegating such influential and transformative developments to the "Culture" section, or a paragraph in the "Economy" section, is hardly representative of these major formative events in the postwar history of Nashville.

This is concerning. ~ Penlite (talk) 01:36, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I added some very basic music history to the article, but I'm sure there is still plenty more that could be added. Nickelbackstan5158 (talk) 03:25, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Notable people

[edit]

The article lacks a Notable people section Aminabzz (talk) 20:52, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That's because it's covered in a separate article, List of people from Nashville, Tennessee. It's the first entry in the "See also" section. BilCat (talk) 01:51, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

User:195.57.101.211, please stop edit warring and self-revert. Becausewhynothuh? and I both prefer the new image. You may discuss why you disagree, but in the meantime, the image should remain at the current concensus of the slightly zoomed-out version. Cerebral726 (talk) 14:56, 21 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Nashville area photo request

[edit]

This is a long shot but oh well. For Andrew Jackson and the slave trade in the United States it would be great if we had a photo of Stones River from Clover Bottom. That's where he manufactured and sold flatboats in the 1790s–1800s and most likely where he and his partner John Hutchings started their journeys floating south to the Cumberland and then the Ohio and then the Mississippi, landing at Bayou Pierre and selling to planters in the Natchez region. Bonus points if the photo doesn't have any jetskis or seadoos so the reader can more easily travel back in time in their mind to 1800. Thanks for reading and thanks in advance if anyone can help.
