Typical Japanese gardens contain several of these elements

[edit]

I find these wordings troublesome. I guess that pavilion is typical of the tea gardens, but not necessarily to all gardens? The dry gardens surely do not follow this pattern at all. Maybe if we change the list to a couple of sentences, it will lessen the impressions that these things are true for all Japanese gardens. // Habj 01:48, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No mention of Bamboo fountains

[edit]

I came here looking for more information on Kakei Bamboo Spouts and bamboo fountains, and was shocked to see that wikipedia (which normally has everything!) lacks ANY entries on this! I have no knowledge in editing wikipedia (nor do I really know where to find more information on bamboo spouts anyway- suppose I'd have to go to the library and start my own research, but it was just a passing curiosity). If there's someone here skilled in editing wikipedia I suppose I'd be willing to do a little research on it and pass my information on. I'd -really- like to see a page on bamboo fountains open up, and also I'd like to see more on them here in the Japanese garden section. Bamboo fountains have been a part of Japanese gardens for centuries, and anyone who has watched Japanese entertainment in great length is familiar with the bamboo fountain.

So, any takers? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Coroloro (talkcontribs) 15:07, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think that the term "fountain" may be confusing. To Anglophones a "fountain" is something that dispenses water in an upward direction. A kakei is a bamboo spout directed at a shallow downward angle, towards a water basin such as a tsukubai or perhaps a noisemaker such as a shishi-odoshi. Can you give an example of a kakei that dispenses water in an upward direction, as a fountain would? Bricology (talk) 17:54, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Mie Gakure

[edit]

I've been getting into this and was hoping to find an article. Since there's none, I created redirects to Japanese gardens here and here. Therefore I'm requesting if anyone can find and fill in information about Mie Gakure. The ShadowSkull (talkcontribs) 19:57, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Japanese garden. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Tree limb supports or crutches -- what is proper Japanese term?

[edit]

I noted that no mention is made of what tree limb supports or "crutches" are called in Japanese. It's my understanding that "tsurazue" and "hōdzue shichū" are both used, but not being proficient in Japanese I am not sure about this. Can anyone clarify this? Thank you.
