Page layout years

[edit]

There is a discussion on my talk page on page layout.

For most of the last three hundred years there is inconsistency and duplication between the year in topic paragraph, the "see also" box and what is on the year by topic pages. Prior to 1950 I am pretty convinced we can painlessly (except for sore fingers) delete all of the year in topic paragraphs and ensure that the material goes into a "see also" box, creating such a box where none exists. Post 1950, particularly from the "year in US television" link a lot of material has been added to this paragraph as highlights (sometimes making up most of the page content pointed at).

Personally I think we should still delete the paragraph, keep the box linking to the topic sites and move any particularly important parts of the year in topic paragraph to the main chronological list. This does involve undoing quite a bit of work which someone has done.

Therefore, unlike for prior to 1950 (where I've said no objection= I do it) for post 1950 I won't touch these pages unless a significant number of people agree with the change. (I am also unlikely to get the pre 1950 stuff done before summer unless the service speed improves dramatically). talk--BozMo 13:57, 7 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Statistics

[edit]

How about adding a section on statistics to each year?

Ex: Cost of a stamp. Us/World population. US Govt Budget, Etc.

I'd be happy to aggregate the information, does anyone know where these facts already exist? (almanac, etc?) -D

Only important info for the whole world would be useful; the population would be the most important thing to add. Jim Michael (talk) 15:51, 2 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, we have no bananas

[edit]

I feel like a doofus even having to raise this, but...The President of the Mexican town of Coacalaco, José Ramon del Cuet, is forced to eat 12 pounds of bananas and then resign. This can't be true...can it? What's 'the President' of a Mexican town? Why can't I find any reference to this on the net except copies of the text here? I hope it's true, but somehow...I have my doubts. Peeper 20:48, 6 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sporting events

[edit]

I am relatively new to Wikipedia, but teams winning championships are found on the Wikipedia sites of many other years Kruse56 14:55, 9 October 2006 (UTC)Kruse56[reply]

Well they shouldn't be. Most sporting events should go in each year's sports article, which were created to suit that very purpose. For 1978, that article is 1978 in sports. --TM 17:59, 9 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sad day for the world?

[edit]

Note on October 30. Who is Murti and just why is it a sad day for the world? This looks like an opinion entry on that date. Leandar 16:22, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ridiculous

[edit]

I cannot believe that because I edited out UNIMPORTANT entries, which are ALL pop culture, and BELONG in respective areas, like FILM/MUSIC/TV in 1978..people may have felt "slighted" instead of maybe learning a lesson...can anyone really claim that "The Star Wars Holiday Special" is meritable as plane crashes and murders? No, to a 15th generation fan who wasn't even born when the damn thing originally aired, it's important...CHRIST, does the year 2007 have on it "Paris Goes To Jail"? I bet it does...we live in a real sad world today people, where REAL news is blurred with fake meaningless crap that belongs on POP CULTURE ENTRIES... --69.238.75.35 23:34, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tito

[edit]

I guess June 23 entry ("Josip Broz Tito is named Yugoslav president for life") may be wrong, quoting from Josip Broz Tito itself:

"On May 16, 1974, the new Constitution was passed, and Josip Broz Tito was named President for life."

The birth year of Jay-Z?

[edit]

This article lists Jay-Z as being born on December 4, 1978. I believe his correct date of birth is December 4, 1969. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.11.95.16 (talk) 01:26, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Korean 2004 film 'Once Upon a Time in High School' takes place in 1978. Is it okay if this info is added to the article? 99.229.240.10 (talk) 00:03, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why do the monthly sub-devisions of year articles in the 20th century end with 1978?

[edit]

There are separate pages for all of the months of every year from 1900 to 1977, but they abruptly end with October 1977. Why? Is this still a work in progress? PrecariousWorlds (talk) 19:16, 13 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
